  1. What does a CBC w/ differential include?

2. Is CBC w/ Diff the Initial Screeing test in Pt w/ Fe Def?

3. Kaplan Peds chapter mentions a minimal reticulocyte (0-1%)count, should it not actually be much higher than that?

4. Pls tell me initial Test and confirmatory test in fe def for PEDS or Adult (is it the same?)

cbc with diff.count meaning the entire blood panel of all cell lines.

Fe def- 1. Iron studies-microcytic hypochromic. that panel.
2. confirmed by bone marrow biopsy-more RCDW.

Ok Ben.....as far as the Retic index is concerned, its high when the bone marrow is compensating. if its high, think of hemolysis or blood loss that the bone marrow is responding to adequately, and its not the bone marrow thats the problem. Iron def anemia has a low retic count <2
