  Why is Medical Assisting a good job for experience?

I can tell you:

-Direct Patient care and contact
-Supervised by Physicians
-Can perform many small procedures legally since its under physician

This can give you LORs
This can give you new contacts for Residency

  Route to medical assistant is not easy as Medical Assistant schools don't give credit for having MD. You would have to complete 2years program plus the admission is also quite competitive. Pay starts from 70K and goes upto 110K depending on the speciality you get into.

Now he went full 180 degrees and states its okay....

  I worked as a medical assistant. Basically, you just room patients. You can prick fingers for Hb, HbA1c, do urinalysis, EKG, strep and flue tests. That's it. Not a lot of physicians want to help you. I got hired as MA because I said I couldn't get into residency, and I won't try any longer. I wouldn't get hired if they knew I am still looking how to match. They considered me a good worker, they knew I had ecfmg certificate. But nobody offered any help. I was afraid to ask for anything because I felt like I could lose my job instead.

  It pays $12-14/ hour. Usually, you work from 8am to 4-5 pm Monday through Friday. Holidays and weekends off. You come in, and you start rooming patients. You check vitals, ask about health issues, put everything in a nurse note, check and update meds. In family practice offices you can check flue test or strep test before physician is in. You can run urinalysis if pt has UTI symptoms. We did ekg, simple spirometry, pricked fingers for Hb, Hb A1c, INR.
I worked in 2 offices. One job was at pulmonary office . It was extremely boring. We just checked vitals, and updated meds. It was a lot of drama and disrespect.
The other job was at primary physician office where we did everything. It was extremely busy every day. I liked it as I learned a lot but I felt exhausted all the time.

  @me7

Thanks for detailed info. Did the Dr. give you a LOR for your MA experience? Have you looked into applying for Missouri Assistant Physician ? Once they actually start taking applications later this year, the pay will be a lot better than MA
