  Can someone explain why a PE patient will have respiratory alkalosis., isn't the patient retaining CO2, so should he/she be acidotic?

  PE pat are tachypneic? RT! Think 'initially'! Hyperventilation -> to vacuum what gas from blood revere? Forget about persistent of hyperventilation story later in pic, that muscle burn out -> respiratory acidosis/hypercapnic RF.
