Assuming this is not a Troll post:

1. The grammar in this thing is bad, seriously bad.
2. AMGs will always have priority over any IMG getting into residency, Non -US IMGs will never be considered for something like this, Never.
3. US-IMGs may have a chance to increase the possibility of being admitted to residency if they are US born trained outside with a petition such as the one appearing every once in a while in the forum. IMGs born outside the US, trained in another country who eventually become citizens before residency training will probably not be considered for an initiative of this sort.
4. Grammar in the "petition" is bad. Really, really bad.

I doubt it! Congress is full of Republicans, with "Buy American, Hire American" attitude and an upcoming trump immigration reform.

I donít see any benefit with this petition. We have to do rotation again for 2 years and then apply for the residency all over again and what if we stilll donít get the residency?i think it will be waste of time and money. I think instead they should bring program like you can work under some physician for year or so and then you can work on your own in the area of critical needs.

  prem522:
And bypass residency to be allowed to earn what American graduates earn after 7+ or so years of training and IMGs after 3-6 years or more of training in the US? That's even worse. Will never happen. IMGs will never be allowed to get into the system like that, not only to replace primary care MDs but also PAs and other "mid level" providers.

The only response to any situation in the future is cranking up the production of AMGs interested in primary care, incentives to move to underserved areas, etc. With the political climate the way it is now, it is very risky to attract attention to the process of matching to residency as IMG.

First, Never, ever consider DOs as less, they get equivalent education to MDs and if you get into a residency program, you will definitely have a few DO co-residents and more than a few colleagues after training.
Same with NPs and PAs. These providers invest a significant amount of effort, time and money into obtaining qualifications for independent patient care.
It is not a question of fairness. Is it cost effective and fair to hire US born and trained NPs and PAs over having to pay to train IMGs
Midlevel providers are an essential part of the US healthcare system.

Don't take me wrong, I'm all for IMGs, I owe everything to the process and to being lucky enough to get through successfully, my point is, petitions or laws in favor of getting more IMGs in the system will never pass. Never. Medicare pays for residency positions and lawmakers, republican or democrat, will never favor paying to train non US-IMGs over AMGs or US-IMGs.
The only hope is that again, attention is not diverted to the process and IMGs can continue to obtain residency positions in the US.
