I had previous J1, you wont have any trouble traveling as long as you take your DS-19 with you. Itīs just another piece of paper that states where you are and the dates you started and when your gonna finish.

Thanks passingthesteps2017

You know residency and fellowship are almost 7 years, what I was talking about is when your J1 visa expires every year but you want to travel to home country for family vacation and renew your J1 visa for reentry, has anyone experienced significant delays in the renewal process?

If you leave the United States with an expired visa, you will not be allowed to reenter the country until you obtain a valid visa at a United States embassy or consulate in your country of residence. If you leave the United States during your 30-day grace period, you will not be able to reenter the United States on your J-1 visa.
