Hey starwars i have a Q if u can reply .......

is it allowed from ecfmg to repeat year 1 as a categorical after doing prelim in the same program .......???
hi starwars!

As pakipower I have the same Q:

Is it allowed to apply and match in categorical PGY1 spot after a prelim PGY1 on J1 status????

What is your status?
Was you allowed to do that?

Thakyou in advance!
hey guys yeah i think u r allowed next year into categ as pgy1 from prelim

yeah starwars remember u. on trail right now. all i see is apprehensive candidates. its pretty grim. u applied again this year? more calls than last time? did prelim year have a benefit?
hi guys,
I was told that if I have to repeat PG1 cat on J1 then the program has to send a justification letter to ECFMG why I need to repeat the year. As far as my situation goes I am one of the œjack pot winner™s I suppose and was offered cat PGY2 in the same hospital as one of the candidates dropped off due to personal problems. I have not signed the contract yet but my PD told me a couple of days back.

I have seen quite a few guys who could not get any GS positions and switched to FP/IM/ OBG. I am not telling all this to scare you guys. When I can get it so can you too. I want to paint the real picture before you guys so you can make a wise decision. Usually the cat positions are far fewer then the prelim positions so the competition is cut throat. One more thing you have to consider is if you take H1 visa then by the time you finish your prelim and cat GS the 6 years will be over and if you are on J1 only 1 year is left so you can not do any fellowships on either visa. What I suggest is make a plan and a back up plan as well. So you are well prepared. Good luck to all of you. If you have any questions please let me know. I will try to answer your questions but please give me some time as I won™t be visiting this forum as often as I would love to.

hey starwars......Thanx 4 d info.
shd we compromise program quality for visa.....?.....as u mentioned we wont get time for fellowshios.bt if u r on H1.thn u can apply for GC.....which wont be poss with J visa.....so shd we get into a comm prog wit h1 or univ prog wit J1......
waiting for ur reply
u've done really well for yourself. Congrats
We all know surgery is difficult but would you like to share u r experience as a resident
Are u treated well as any other AMG?
Would we be prepared well enough to handle clinical/operative problems alone? ( if we have to make it to our home country )- do not want to go back with retarded experience from UK
And i heard that we could process green card while u r 6 years stay in H1
( NOT THAT AM GONNA GET H1 - guys , have u heard of any program offering H1 for prelim)
hey dude22. u cant apply for GC as some program/hospital/employer has to sponsor ur GC so u cant apply while u r doing ur residency. so what u can do is find a job, take an years extension on H1 and file for GC (EAD status or something).

hey starwars, my email id is prateek.gupta needed to ask a personal question privately (not on the forum). if u ok with it could u email me, or if u want i could email u (would need to know ur email id). thanks
