How is University of Kentucky and Yale University for prelim surgery? any idea about conversion rates into categorical?

hey maverick one of my senior with 99-99-98 was kicked out of yale prelim last year and now he is in PA.
sorry i could not contact you for the interview discussion as i was out of station and just reached back and saw your email.
tell me one thing that prelim J1 can be converted to categorical PGY1 next year in the same hospital ?

oh!! why was he kicked out? they dont treat them nice there? any more info on it?

me going to kentucky in Jan ..... actually the same old reason ..... Yale ppl said that you are in prelim and next year we dont have any PGY2 categorical postion so bye bye for now as you cant repeat PGY1 as a categorical resident in same hospital.

i personally have no idea about Kentucky prelim conversion but one thing for sure that there categorical programs is awesome.
Hey what do u say about Temple university prelim ?? anyother program u know with good conversion ?

well i emailed the yale PC and she said that they are inviting just 20 candidates for 5 prelim spots. now what happens to all 5. they kick all of them out?? worth probing more...

didnt know that about kentucky....but again the important thing is conversion. lets c if we find out. u going on jan 5?

Hey maverick if u talk to the Yale PC then let me know what did she say about the future of prelim residents over there ......... do ask her the question that if there is no open spot for PGY2 in 2008 then where would we go ?

Would ECFMG know about this ?? or is it best to ask Prelim Residents

Hi maverick, how are you doing buddy! Do you remember me from last year surgincal tread. I know you did not participate last year but were quite active for some time. I got in to prelim GS last year. I am going to tell what I saw and heard from others. This is purely my opinion. Most of the programs don't have enough spots to take their prelim GS residents to PGY2. So most of the time you have to find spot else where or apply again to cat GS next year. So what I suggest is think twice before you accept prilim position if you have a choice.
