i think its the superior laryngeal nerve..how often do u see vocal palsy post thyroidectomy?? rather, change in timbre of voice is atleast seen sometimes post surgery..i mean, i think its sup laryngeal..not sure though..

external laryngeal nerve ,branch of superior laryngeal nerve travels along with superior thyroid artery....ligation of sup thyroid artery can result in external lary nerve involvement accidentally
