Hello,
I had the following questions about SON from India. I read the thread by Hope etc about entire J1 process.

How long does it take in India to issue the SON/NOC?
Do we need to include any money for issuance (both officially and unofficially)
From US, is fedex or US mail preferable for return mail back to U.S?

Any other nuances?

once they receive ur documents, SON gets issued within a wk...but takes another 10 days to reach u...no need to include any money for this, officially or un! and they will only send it to u by their own mail system, even if u include a return envelope...hope this helps...GL
