A healthy 35-year-old man is involved in a motor vehicle crash and sustains a severe liver laceration. During surgery he has severe bleeding that requires massive transfusions. The patient is found to have type AB - blood, and no preformed anti-Rh antibodies. Which of the following blood types is safe to transfuse to this patient?


A) O+
B) AB -

C) AB+
D) Any blood type
E) O -

i think with out cross match E is good option?

A person who has group AB blood is therefore able to receive blood from any other group in the ABO system

In my opinion, as long as it is (-), the pt would be ok. AB could accept AB or O. therefore, answer B and E both sound okay

in the real practice they try to give the patient the same blood group , so i go with AB-

why not any blood group? choice D , because it can accept any blood group from the ABO system
