ok. let me rewrite the Q tht has everyone so conf:

9 y/o child is brought by his parents cos when he came back from his playmates house, he was confused and stumbling.
the childs resp rate is 8 and tht is my main concern. other vitals are fine.
on PE he is diaphoretic and cool and mumbles a response to the examiner's Q. and does not open his eyes on command. he has the odor of alcohol on his breath and resp are shallow and slow.

my Q is should we clear airway and intubate
or do pulse ox and give supplemental oxygen
finally some info... he's been drinking... this kid needs to lie down and I would observe vitals and sats, give o2 mask.. also IV line, check urine for other drugs... and when he recovers he will be in trouble with his parents. With normal sats and vitals I wouldn't intubate.
you go Bernie Smile
thanks FG!
