the UW case:
the RR of the child is 8 / min but we dont intubate. just supp oxygen.
is that sensible? when we dont know the reason for his resp failure.
<8 you intubate.....some say 8 intubate..
but also have to check the O2 saturation...
did the UW question have give O2 Sat!
what other information is given?
-age of pt. ?
-completely obtundated or still awake?
-breathing spontaneously
-O2 sat
-pco2, po2
bernie,
why you said age?
as far as i know age has nothing to with intubation...
if you need one you need one.....even neonates get it and 90 yrs old pt get it too..
in kids the only thing you have to decide is if they need cuffed vs. uncuffed tube...that's all..
there is an age cutt off for that...
8 is the resp rate not the age.
the child has alt. mental status and is stumbling when he walks.
does not open eyes on command. mumbles incoherrently.
Cricoid, given the lack of information I think you would agree there is a difference between a newborn and a 15 or 16 year old....
i think the issue is the Glasgow coma scale....
is this pt is still 'walking' on his own??
trwlawney can u please rewrite the Questions---I am loosing track of the findings--thnx
