TSH first....if thyrotoxic...than RAIU...hot nodule....chances of malignancy very low...cold nodule FNAC
USG is done sometimes if nodule is not palpable ...to do USG guided biopsy....
usually answer follows the above pattern....

The most important routine aspects of the diagnostic evaluation of solitary thyroid nodules include
1.thorough history taking and physical examination,
2.measurement of the serum TSH level
3.and FNAB of the nodule.
Note:Thyroid ultrasonography can be helpful in certain cases when it is used to guide FNAB
Subsequent management of a solitary thyroid nodule largely depends on the diagnosis from FNAB
