A 47-yr old obese manis being evaluated for 3 month h/o wt gain and fatigue.3+glucouria in initial lab screeing. 2-hr postparandial glucose level 260 mg/dl.initial therapy is diet control, exercise, and close monitoring of glucose, lipid and BP.which of the following would be a consequence of his metabolic state at the time of initial presentation ?

a.activation of pyruvate dehydrogenase,
b.deactivation of fatty acid synthase,
c.deactivation of citrate shuttle,
d.decrese level of acetyl coA,
e.increased conversion of tryglyceride to glycerol
I am right on this one, will read more about physiopath Smile

Thanks .

seriously, it is type2 DM but what could be the answer, this is a good qs
it is a good one. insulin activates fatty acid synthase, and lipolysis is increased in DM.
maybe it's eee?
jazzblue if insulin activates fatty acid synthase, and lipolysis is increased in DM.

Isn't TGs synthesis and storage, answer E? but u sad lipolysis in DM
hey jazz..if lipolysis activated..then person shud loose wt na...

i think its insulin resistance..n hence cellular def of insulin..so citrate shuttle hampered...wat say jazz n okt3
metabolism always confuses me Sad
harsh, the citrate shuttle and FA synthase r in the same pathway of FA synthesis, what about bbb?
D?
yep...jazz...if jus decrese in insulin is wat we r assuming...then B C D E all r rite....m totally confused nw..
