septic shock. blood culture revealed E.coli. what is the source of the bacteremia?

1. small intestine
2. colon
3.biliary tree
4. oropharynx
5. urinary tract
55?
isnt bacteremia bacteria in bld without symp...just thought i read that some where..

no other history given?
id go with uti..nore common than the rest of the disease
I don't think UTI because it's a Man. If the patient is woman, I will choose UTI. Now, I'm thinking of Colon.
lynn, I hope you are a female so you dont have to worry about prostate hyperplasiaSmile, most old dude get BPH by age of 72 and E.Coli bacteremia is mainly from 5. urinary tract.
Anaerobic bacteria love COLON under normal condition, which is not the best "SUITE" for E.coli
Agree, urunary tract, probably from indwelling catheter.
2. colon
I think E.coi septicemia from indwelling catheter is the number1 cause of septic shock. But you may be right.
moam, dont get confused, I am 100% sure about the answer(UT), that is the reason i posted my answer as soon as I read(less than 1 minute).

Most common cause of UTI per order:
#1- E. Coli
#2 Proteus mirabilis
#3-Klebseilla pneumonia
