i read all what you wrote Parmax about the difference between AMG and IMG. and to be honest i think your opinion is too biased. no student is better than other. AMG is by no mean more productive or any of the other things that you said about them. in fact some of the best surgeons in the states and allover the world are not from western countries. there is no such thing like physicians from certain country are better than others. the only advantages that the AMG has that IMG dont have are Familiarity with the system, the language and the culture. that is the only difference. i agree about the fact that scores are not the judge of who is better when it comes to work as physicians though.

i agree with you, this year competition is very tough. FM & Psyc used to be backup but NO MORE. Because of better living style alot AMGs jumping in Psyc now. They have very high criteria now and same in FM . Both are looking for good scores + fresh grads and good clinical experience.
@ Paramus
Buddy this year very crazy, belive me. One of my friend could not match last year with 12IVs and this year he applied with step-3 and more clinical experience and he got only 6 IVs so far........this year really crazy.....
Wish us good luck this year.......

the US schools invest great deal of money in to education of these people. even an ordinary individual
will have a chance to excel. this is not something we can find in our own countries. with all the gizmos and gadgets and support it is much easier to learn for them.
some of the best surgeons are immigrants, the reason is very simple, example: india has more high iq students then the US due to the population, if one of these kids make its way to the US he probably will blossom with the abundance of opportunities. he will work more due to his need to prove himself and more efficiency due to his intelligence. any foreigner who can navigate through the system will be one of the best in the world due to the abundance of resources and the persons innate characteristics. Wouldn't you work 1 hour more every day and spend extra 45 minutes everyday writing a paper while the AMGs would prefer to go home ?
i am not racist person and do not believe in obvious superiority of one race (not country) to another. BUT the US has the mos efficient medical education system due to the great capital in the system, which results in better outcomes. If any immigrant were to enter a top US medschool I believe he would kick as.s. cause he carries the genetic potential of his family which had the innate power to survive in the US and generate enough revenue to send their son to medschool.
Unfortunately we are following the art of healing more than couple of steps behind the US physicians, the only way to catch up is to try to make our place there.
My biggest point was there was no idea of devaluating ourselves with stupid rejection messages, people are taking such a humiliating response seriously.
Yes we will get rejected the reasons are clear, the system may not seem fair but it is not personal.

i agree with your point that we shoud not devaluate ourselves with these stupid rejections. but i still think american physician are very very ordinary and i saw some american physician who graduated in some of the best med school here and they still do very silly mistakes even after the training that you mentioned. I think they try to keep us away from the high paid and highly competitive jobs and keep it for themselves. i actually don't blame them for that cuz every country in the whole universe tries to protect their own citizens (at least that is what they are supposed to do). but again you right.... don't sit and cry because of a stupid PD who is too rude to even reject you in a nicer way. keep your dream alive.... @dremad75
I cannot agree with you more. I spent one whole year doing my obervership in different surgical departments in NY and NJ and recieved excellent LORs from them. Some places had MD, others had DO residency programs too. Those who did not, had residents (FM, IM, GS, Anaesthesia) rotating from other neighboring hospitals. Most of them were AMGs. Academic discussions on floors or OR showed not even a single resident with outstanding medical knowledge. Situation with DO resident was more pathetic. They were more of technicians then doctors. Most of them were mumb when asked some medical questions, and we are talking about R4 and R5 level residents here, not R1 who are still wet behind the ears. The system here just hyped everything about the AMGs. Probably they are unaware of what IMGs, especialy from the underdeveloped world, go through before , during and after their med school period, in terms of hard work, competition and expenses, so they are not in a position to comment impartially when it comes to comparison between IMGs and AMGs. Chow!
