35 yrs old with pap smear reading of ASCUS. What is the next step?
1- repeat cytology in 3-6 mos
2-HPV/DNA testing
3-colposcopy and biopsy
repeat pap smear in 3-6 months
1- if the patient is not likely to come back for followup in 3-6 months then -colposcopy
2- otherwise repeat pap in 3-6 months.
you need to do HPV/DNA testing. If the results will show HPV types 6, 11 - then follow up in 1 year with pap smear. HPV/DNA testing will reveal HPV 16, 19, 31, 33, 35 - the do colposcopy.
I go with dralex, we start with HPV testing, if 6 or 11 then repeat pap after 1 yr. If 16,18 or others, then, you need to repeat after 3 months if the followup is certain, otherwise proceed with colposcopy.
if u have 16,18 u have to see now ,, not in 3 month,,,
