By June 2010, I'll be done with all steps. I'm an IMG. Do not need visa. BUT, by June, I'll have graduated 3 years ago. I know USCE will help. Are there any jobs I can apply for that will increase my experience in US hospitals (in case I can't find adequate USCE)? Any other advise to help make my application look appealing? Thanks in advance!
1. Plan on Continuing Education Credits
2. Work with local physician if Hospital Observer ship does not work out -
3 Apply early - like now to confirm dates you would like to start observership etc
4. Of course - write - meet faculty and volunteer to help them with their ongoing research - most senior faculty in university programs always have ongoing research especially in areas like - Diabetes, Hormones, Sleep Studies. (You can easily find this out by checking their website, internal postings.
5. Please keep in mind the faculty is always very keen to get federal , NIH funding to pursue research.
You may even volunteer to pursue a proposal development if you are really keen.
6. Be creative -
lubdubgone,
willyou please explain about Continuing Education Credits
thanks a lot.
credentials shud be improved regularly
Continued Medical Education (CME) please do a google search and you will come up with a lot of sites, universities and AMA offering updated information - learning for medical professional.

There is reading material, tests and capability to print certificates for successful completion. You get credits for each successful assessment. Good substitute for paid externship
Thank you lubdubgone and dakhore for your input!

lubdubgone,
I've done random CME's online, but what would be the best way to present the credits? Do I just mention CMEs anywhere I can (e.g. when asked about experience)? Do I make a portfolio of the certificates? Would appreciate your advice!
Thanks!
Mention in CAF, Resume and can take portfolio with you for IV.

Practically, no harm stating that learning in US is expensive, Opportunities for observership, externship difficult and this is a blessing in disguise. IT IS FREE
lubdubgone,
Thank you so much! It's given me some hope Smile
Also, thanks for your instant and detailed replies!
