hey guys I need an explanation about Haemoglobin concentarion and it is effect on oxygen transport namely PO2 and oxygen stauration and total oxygen content.

I know that anemia --> decreased Hb --> decrease in carried oxygen --- > decrease in total oxygen content but i cant understand why the PO2 didnot change ???

thank you guys i will appreciate ur reply

good luck for every body
formula
O2 content = (1.34 x Hb) x SaO2 +PaO2

may be this will help.
thank you.
in anemia the reduction is in the total O2 content ,,, PO2 measure the dissolved oxygen,, which is normal in anemia
but why the Po2 didnot change,,,,,,,,,,!!!
OXYGEN either dissolved{ not bounded to HB} or bound to HB { PERCENT OF SATURATION}

SO dissolved HB WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THE level of HB INCREASED OR DECREASED
I don't know what's wrong, but I can't seem to post in here.
Ok, now it seems to work... anyway, PO2 is the partial pressure of oxygen. It's not related to hemoglobin, but to the atmospheric pressure (if patient is breathing on room air of course). Even if the blood didn't contain any hemoglobin, the oxygen partial pressure is the same and reflects how much oxygen is dissolved in the serum - usually it's 0.003 mg/dL (very low and can't meet the oxygen demand of our bodies). That's why we have hemoglobin which can carry oxygen .

Does this help? Smile
