Guys I really need your help. Finally received an iv from my dream university hospital, a place that I really was thinking would never ever grant grant me an iv. The point is they have dates up to feb 1st from which I have to choose mine.
Given the fact that this is the place I always wanted to end up in, i have a couple of other ivs in university aff-community hosp, and those are progs that usually offer prematch.
What do you think is the best strategy not to spoil my chances in all the progs???
Usually the univ prog I am talking about is not offering prematches... But usually that one is an hospital for AMGs...

@DrBrian: hope you remember me, the italian doc from the demo session... Of course I have to
enroll in your full session now!!! Sure that you have only last weekend session??? I
really wanted the one in the first weekend of dec...
I meant the session scheduled on last weekend of nov
Get the earliest date possible from now. If they gave even a single prematch in the past, this is the best thing to do. Also impress them well so that your IV score will be high and you will definitely be ranked. Don't waste any time.
moony what hospital is this? congrats by the way.
Hi Doc,

Wow, I never really check these forums (simply no time), but for some reason decided to tonight.

Buona Sera! Of course I remember you from the demo :0) How could I not? You stayed stayed with us all through the night and until the break of dawn (italian time) and you were fun to have in the lecture.

1) Congratulations!

2) I can give you better advice if I knew specific names of hospitals. It's likely I've had a student in the past IV at your dream program, so at the very least I can tell you if they matched there.

If you want to drop in on tomorrow's lecture (21st), I can talk with you on one of the breaks. Just email theusmlezone (put: Italian Doc in the subject line). I'll ask Dr Carrillo to send you an invite into the classroom. Session 8's Day 2 is from 12pm-8pm EST on Nov 21st.

3) . . . in general, without knowing specifics, your best bet strategy would be to schedule that dream program anywhere around mid-Dec (10th-17th). Once you get into the holidays and into January, the quality of IV's takes a dip.

4) As per number, '3', I can walk you through how to move the dates for your already scheduled interviews. With any luck, you can move them into the early part of December, use them as, 'practice interviews', and still stand an outside chance of securing a prematch if they still have slots available. By moving it within a 1 to 2 week period of your dream program, it should at least allow you enough time to visit all your options during the, 'grace' period . . . so you can make a more informed decision.

I can give more accurate advice if I know your whole ERAS situation. . . so you can either email me, stop into the session, or post in this thread.

Best Wishes,
Dr Brian

While I'm certain imggrad1's intentions are 100% noble/positive/well-meaning (which hopefully you get good karma for), I have to respectfully disagree with the advice. . . jumping on the earliest possible date is not necessarily the best option. In a scenario where you are unable to modify current dates (which is likely), you'd be better off selecting a date that happens after you've sat for at least a few other interviews.

There is absolutely NO substitute for an Actual IV Experience. Not even the IV Online Seminar that I host can duplicate that.

Best Wishes, Dr Brian

ps- imggrad1: I really do hope you get good Karma. From a quick search of your name it seems that you do genuinely try to be helpful. aka, a program would be lucky to have you :0)

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your help!!!
DrBrian, Buongiorno Wink You are awesome!!! I guess you really know the program, is the one with the 5 yrs program I wanted to do, in the city...
Yeah, one of the dates that was offered is exactly in the week you suggested, with the others being from 11 jan on...and I really hope the other hospital can swap my dec date with another one

@zealot: send me your email Smile
Thank God I have attended already 2 ivs (1 this year, 1 last year), so it's not my first time Smile

what you mean by "Once you get into the holidays and into January, the quality of IV's takes a dip"? you mean they will not rank you highly if you go to IV during January?
