Hi! Thank you for taking out time to help us!

I am an IMG, 2007 grad, 12 weeks observership, 3-4 waived U.S LORS, step 1- 83 on 2nd attempt, step 2-99, cs- passed, step 3- yet to take, dont have any strong contacts, need visa, no Green card, will be applying for the first time this year To mainly IM, FM programs..maybe few peds....will be applying widely to about 150 programmes...

To put it rather BLUNTLY...what are my chances this year?? I am looking for ur sincere opinion...and what can I do to improve my chances?

And what should be the deadline to take step 3 for me...

[you chances as your application stands are not good on the first pass, that being said, DO NOT be disheartened because there are many applicants like you self who have matched. The idea is to keep trying till you succeed. you have succeed to in obtaining a 12 week obs. You should work on getting some more because you have to compensate for the low scores in other ways. You say you have no connections - i say you DO have connections, talk to the program where you rotated for obs, do the physicians there have contacts you can use? do you know any remote relative who is related to someone somewhere? work on it. If you are SUPER confident that you will get a fabulous score for step 3, then take it as you can demonstrate the increasing score on the standardized tests. If you are a little bit unsure. dont as a poor score will further damage your application. so based on that decide for the exams. if you are planning to get H1b (which is recommended and preferred), the you should have your step 3 results ready by march latest - that way the GME office can forward your petition on time.]

And what should be the deadline to take step 3 for me...

[your chances of matching itself are really good, you should apply to a lot of programs and expect good number of interviews. for univ to be attracted to your application, scores are essential, also good to have are volunteer or research experiences. finally one more would be what was your school of graduation. if your school is reputed then it also make a big difference.]
