I just realized that I was allowed to go between USA & Canada without any problem but you cannot go to Brazil - In the DS2019 it say that travel between contiguous countries does not require any authorization which is Canada & Mexico - NOT BRAZIL

Are you sure you dont need the the travel validation signed? I spoke to ECFMG several times and that is what they have told me. In fact I am waiting on my new DS2019 with the travel validation signed.

Have you activated your J1 yet? If not check at the boarder directly from the immigration guy. I know for sure that there is no problem going by land but am not sure about the flying options - though it should be the same!!!
They had told me specifically that there was no problem as long as I carry my documents.
I have already crossed twice & will be going back to Canada after my documentation is done again
I heard from my friend.. going back/forth between canada and US is okay, but other countries, you need some documents from your program.
well I activated my J1 and then returned to Canada the following day. I was told by ECFMG that I had to get the new DS2019 signed with the validation of travel. So I waited a few days and had them over night it to me. I even mentioned that I am crossing from Canada, and they said you will still need the validation of travel.

The only way out for blitz is to fly back to Toronto from Brazil instead of coming into an airport in USA, then go by road to his US city.
