Congratulation, no doubt for wonderful score 252 after 249(step 1) and 266 (step 2).
I'm also aiming >225 after >240 (both 1 & 2).

there is no mystery here.....in my humble opinion...a good base on ck makes for a good step 3 score...the original poster has a phenonmenal ck score and just worked on that knowlege base...

I am very surprised that self assessment is considered such a big deal ! As I said I did not do ANY self assessments for step 3, 2 or 1 ! I am PGY 10 have finished a PhD and completed 6 yrs of surgical training, with a very strong medical school education, I think a solid background and also clinical experience goes a long way towards success in these exams.

pgy 10? in which field does it take 10 years to complete residency? :o

doctam3, You seem to have issues that I won’t be able to help with. I was hoping to share my experience, and say that there are other easier ways of doing well in these exams.

I did residency in Australia. We do 1-2 years of internship then apply to a program while still working in the hospital system.

I did 2 years internship then 2 years of full-time doctoral research then a 6 years surgical program, (5 years plus 1 year of fellowship). now going to USA for some extra fellowship.

We have a great program here. No One goes to USA for residency given that the average salary for a surgical resident in Australia/New Zealand is $200K+ with 5-6 week of annual leave. but if you want a USA fellowship you have to do these exams at this stage of your career (plus a massive pay-cut ! )

@usmlenz2013: That's amazing - congrats! Just out of curiosity, how much do sugeons typically make in Australia/New Zealand ?
