A woman in early stages of her pregnancy steps into your office for a routine check-up. She confessed that she is a beer drinker. You know that beer contains a fairly good amount of folate. You calculated out that the amount of folate in beer she drinks is roughly equal to the amount of folate she gets as a supplement. Which would the best choice in providing further prenatal care to this woman:
A. Discontinue folate supplement
B. Continue folate supplement as before
C. Add thiamine as a new supplement

B is Correct, but why wud u continue with folate suppl given that the woman is getting it from drinking beer???

I think at the same time and advice to stop drinking beer would be helpful
Maybe because the folate supplement can be absorbed more easily?
plus that we cant expect her to drink the same amount of beer every day...

Cause alcohol inhibits folate absorption.

Is this possible?
