is it legal to write MD infront of our name - nimoz - ArchivalUser - 02-08-2007

After ECFMG certification, before starting internship??

usually it's AFTER, ie, Joe Blow MD. Yes, it's legal, as long as u have a MD degree, ECFMG is not required.

i meant that once youre certified can you write MD with your name even if you have not started your internship yet?

as tiger mentioned ECFMG is not required to use MD. ECFMG is required to start postgraduate training and have license. The only thing you need to have is physician diploma.
e.g. Joe Blow, MD -
The Head of Carwash

da'lings if a foreign graduate completes his step1 and step2 plus CS, can he write MD infront of his name before starting internship?

no matter where u got ur MD degree, once u finished medical school, and had that piece of paper called 'DIPLOMA', u can use the term MD in your name. it has NOTHING to do with internship, or residency, or fellowship, or if u have been to the moon!

Got it???!!!

phew... if youre a foreign graduate you CANNOT use the term MD with your name unless you've atleast gotten ECFMG certification... but theres controversy over that as well..

you can use MD suffix after your name if you have MD degree regardless of the ECFMG certificate or getting into the residency in US, however you can not use this title in issues related to mangaement of patients unless you have a work permit as a physician in the US.

It seems cheap to write MD infrom of your name when you mail PDs and important people. They know youre just a candidate.. applying for residency..
