A pt previously diagnosed as having a poor lipid profile is newly diagnosed with essential HTN. Which of the following would be the most appropriate pharmacotherapy to control the HTN?
A.)beta blocker
B.)ace inhibitor
C.)thiazide diuretic

theoritically, first drug to start as anti-HTN is diuretics, preferably thiazide.
but in practice, most of the time they start with ACEi in young pt.
I think thiazide affects lipid profile, so how about ACEi for this pt ?

answer is D. thiazides and beta blockers are typically first line unless their are other indications. Ace for pt with DM. Ca channel blockers for pt with poor lipid profile.
