Not great in what way.Can you explain.thanx 0 - ArchivalUser - 01-30-2009 The program is actually very good. 1. Most FMG's don't like it (or Harlem) because it's a Black program and FMG's can't deal with taking orders/directions from Blacks. 2. Most narrow-minded (understand biggoted) FMG's think that Black is bad and anything white is good, therefore combination of "all Black ledership and majority percentage Black patients = BAD program". That's the problem in a nutshell. 0 - ArchivalUser - 01-30-2009 hmmm... you know that's right! Well said...think that alot of us think but unable to say.Yes you did! 0 - ArchivalUser - 01-30-2009 I meant : things that alot of us are unable to say... or avoid.... you put right there in the open.ok curiousbuddy you got the RIGHT answer 0 - ArchivalUser - 01-30-2009 i dunno about the whole FMG problem with african americans, but what i know is upsetting to FMGs about this program is that unless you are black, or even dark in color, you have a much LESS chance at getting into this program. If you have the same or maybe even better credentials than someone else who is from africa, and did good in ur interview, they will always still prefer the black person and rank them higher. I dunno, i understand that this is a historically african american university, but i think its also not fair to do that, esp when the PD is african american. its an "okay" hospital. if you interview at better university programs, you'll be able to see the difference in the organization, attention to training and experience. it depends on where else you interviewed to be able to say where to rank howard. 0 - ArchivalUser - 01-30-2009 pintobean Do you know that CALIFORNIA (the entire state) has a program called "Welcome back centers" that's designed to facilitate hispanic FMG's into residencies. They get FREE tutoring in english and USMLE step training and once they pass, most cali residency programs have set aside (including UCLA) 1 or 2 spots for them???????? do you have any problems with that? I'll bet you don't because it favors you and yours. What about the rest of us that are not hispanc? I tried to join the welcome back program, one of the requirements is "SPANISH AS YOUR PRIMARY LANGUAGE", since I don't speak spanish, I cannot benefit from a program that's paid for with my tax dollars. |
