I got an email from the associate PD regarding some clarification about my application. Do you think in addition to answering his question i should also state how much I am interested in the program or just cut to the chase and answer the question?? Any Inputs welcome...

I would just clarify what is asked. That is what will make them take a decision not your statement of interest. Go with what wins.
