Question: Replication and transcription are similar processes in mechanistic terms because both ?
A) Use RNA primers for initiation
B) Use dexoyribonucleotides as precursors
C) Are semiconserved events
D) Involve phosphodiester bond formation with elongation occuring in 5'-3' direction

D is the only answer..

nope that is not the answer. i chose it too and got it wrong

0 - ArchivalUser - 05-31-2011

B..

0 - ArchivalUser - 05-31-2011

thts the correct answer, but why b? d looks logical

saintdizzy,
just wonder where this q is from?
if the answer is B then I am missing something.

its from www.netmedicos.com
and they gave the answer as b. i have no idea why.

I don't know I just thought maybe there is a tiny chance that the answer key is wrong. We all know that RNA has ribonucleotides and deoxyribonucleotides are derived from ribonucleotides by the action of ribonucleotide reductase, so there is no way that replication and transcription have the same precursor.

I think D is the correct answer

B

both use a DNA template to produce a new strand
both build polynucleotide strands in the 5'-3' direction.
both occur in the nucleus

DNA is used as a basic source for replication and transcription .....
