whats the diff between:
spina bifida cystica vs. meningocele
spina bifida occulta vs. spina bifida

I am just going through this part today, let me copy them from BRS Pathology:
1. Spina bifida: failure of posterior vertebral arches to close;
2. spina bifida occulta: spina bifida with no clinical apparent abnormalities; vertebral arch defect most often limited to one or two vertebrae;
3. Spina bifida cystica: spina bifida complicated by herniation of meninges through a defect;
4. Meningocele: heniated membranes consisting of meninges only;
5. Meningomyelocele: portion of spinal cord included in herniated tissue;
6. Anencephaly: marked diminution (sometimes absence ) of fetal brain tissues.

this is where my confusion stems. The definition for the ones I listed sound the same. S.b cytica and meningocele sound the same. Are they the same?
since you seem to be going through this bk with me. What about the definition of "external hydocephalus" What disease is associated with this? The definition seems purposeless.
This book seems to have ALOT of low points at times. It really pisses me off.
