for anti ht drugs...what drugs to be used n what shudnt be used

If it is ischaemic stroke, BP should only be treated if systolic is > 190 and diastolic > 110. with goal of maintaining the BP around 160/90 +. Nifedepin S/L should be avoided as it can cause sudden precipitous fall which is difficult to control, whereas easily titrable drugs with early onset of action like sodium nitroprruside can be used till long acting agents have their full action for immediate control.

in one exp it says HT trt not needed until bp 220/130......and not to use I V nitroglycerine or nitroprussides whereas nicardipine and ace inhibitors r preferred drugs....what they mean is do not bring down Bp rapidly even in a case of thrombotic stroke

keep systolic between 140-160
and diastolic <120
