Application turned down from USC General Surgery-I - cartick007
#1
This morning I received the first rejection from Univ. South Carolina General Surgery. I hope guys here give me some suggestion if I am taking the right strategy. My credentials are: 1993 graduate; eight years of surgical experience in India; Ph.D. from America; currently working as a research associate in the Department of surgery at a university (Unfortunately in California and I do not want to be bothered by the California letter); USMLE scores; 215/201/CS pass, all first attempt; three LORS from US professor in surgery and one from India; No USCE; Green Card and more than 20 first author publications including three from very good journals. I do not mean to apply for surgery only since I know chance is slim for me, but I still tried those I seem qualify. I applied 53 surgery, 58 IM and 20 FP programs. I appreciate those who can give me comments if I am taking the right way. Million thanks ahead.

Mukh,

Well, to tell you the truth, I do no think the Ph.D. will help that much, although it is better than nothing. A Ph.D. means you have at least five years gap between clinical practise.
