What is the underlying mechnism of this condition ?

Some defect in Ca++ channels has been implicated in the cause and thats the reason Dantrolene is used in the treatment.

Defect in Ryanodine calcium channels. Causes excessive calcium release, causing excesive muscle contraction, leading to hyperthermia
