dont remem exactly but pt is asked to hold his breath and say numbers or something like that..if its below avg. it is likely that he will get resp failiure and will need to be intubated

Patients with an FVC less than 15-20 mL/kg, maximum inspiratory pressure less than 30 cm H2O, or a maximum expiratory pressure less than 40 cm H2O generally progress to require prophylactic intubation and mechanical ventilation.

yup agree with oblongata FVC is most commonly used to monitor the dev of resp paralysis in GBS
