An 18-year-old - malak
#1
An 18-year-old white male comes to the emergency department complaining of weakness that has developed over the past hour. In the last 12 months he has had two previous episodes that resolved spontaneously, and he has a brother with similar complaints which were diagnosed as psychogenic. He is unable to crawl onto the emergency department cart without assistance. The only abnormality on routine blood work is a serum potassium of 1.5 mEq/L (N 3.5-5.0).

The most likely diagnosis is

hypoglycemia
cardiac arrhythmia
seizure disorder
familial periodic paralysis
Duchenne's muscular dystrophy
