Osteoporosis: Decreased bone mass, both organic and mineral part of bone are decreased.
Lab:Normal serum calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase.

Osteomalacia( Deficiency of Vit D):Only mineral part of bone is decreased. Organic part is alright. Osteoid is produced in normal amounts but is not calcified properly.
Lab: Low serum calcium and phosphorus. High alkaline phosphatase.

Both are susceptible to fractures.
