you know what mylife-step1...when i first read the question i believe too that they asked about the friend...the explication is the initial response to high altitudes is hyperventilation which a direct reaction to the Dec in PaO2 (arterial PO2) this response is mediated by Carotid bodies so there would be no efffect.
