Another Q regarding the consent of physical exam - success100
#1
Hi, Guys:

Do we have to obtain the consent for each maneuver before you proceed, eg: I need to feel your neck to see if you have swollen gland( means lymphadenopathy here) , is that oK with you? then do it,
then we say: now I need palpate your thyroid, is that OK with you? then do it.

Or we just get consent right before we start PE and then let patient know what we will do next without get further consent for each maneuver>

Thanks for your clarification.

i had the same q during practice. But this is how i did: i asked them " I'd like to check your neck, is it OK with you, Mr. /Ms. XYZ?" sure they said "yes", then I started PE. I said "I'm now checking your glands..."when I was palpating their glands , then moved to thyroid and said "now i'm palpating your thyroid, if you feel any discomfort, you let me know, alright, Mr./Ms.XYZ ?"

wish i did the right thing. it saved me alot of time. i did the same thing for abd, cns, lungs, cvs.
