My hypothesis:
DKA usually occurs in Type 1 diabetes. One of insulin's function is to pump K into cells by increasing the Na/K pump. Because of lack of insulin there is hyperkalemia. The increased K in the cell with decrease the efflux--> This will tend to depolarize cells leading to Cardiac arrythmias--> heart failure perhaps. I am not sure about the cerebral edema.

insulin increases k absorption,so in absence of insulin as in DKA there will be hypokalemia.Hypokalemia causes arrythmias.cerebral edema may be due to increase in osmolarity(due to high blood glucose levels).If im wrong, plz correct me.

diabetes------>hyperglycemia------>dilutional hyponatremia----------->cerebral edema.

diabetes------>lack of insulin------->ineffective na/k pump------------->hyperkalemia----->arrhythmias....
