in all other countries if you have a relative in a program , and if you have to join the program the relative or friend will not give you a recomendation and will step down form the position.....till the application process is over and till the guy graduates he will be deputed in another facility....but this is america ...land of laws with lawlessness....
bottom line is lack of accountability in many programs to favor a few

guys this system of favouring is prevalent in all countries not only us, i had a friend who got a st2 position in his choice hospital in uk which is one of the world famous hospital in central london because he knew someone higher up, eventhough the recruitment process is centralised;ie hospitals have no say in the process and there is a centralised recruitment system which is electronic. that person is absolutely useless cannot perform a basic examination, cannot perform simple procedures like suturing etc, he had backlogs in 9 out of 13 subs in med school, took 9ys to pass mbbs flunked each of plab steps thrice. i have heard of people getting residencies in us without even interviewing, i dont know whether it is happening now. people who are worthless get spots in residencies because of connections and it is not a courtesy iv as someone has pointed
this is a sad fact which we have to live with and as someone has pointed, it gets worse in fellowships, i am so frustrated and demoralised, but just think if we had some connection wont we use it
