There is what? like 1500+ IM graduates per year vs what 200 cardiologist positions? Unless you are 90-100% sure you will actually make it to be a gastroenterologist or cardiologist, you are better off with FM than IM. Same money for much better work hours and lifestyle. In some places FM makes slightly less than IM, but that is by choice since most don't take call. Taking weekend call can add that extra $10k per year. Pretty much $1k per weekend call day. Do you wanna live in the hospital forever and be controlled by a hospital group forever? Do want to be on call forever?
