J1 visa help - manaal

I had all the interviews from J1 programs and my question is would my husband be able to work in states on my visa status as an engineer? If anybody can help that would be really appreciated......Thanks.

He can get a J2 dependent visa on which he can work as well as study. You will be subjected to a 2 year home residency requirement, but he won't. The good thing about J2 is that he can easily switch over to H1B, if his employer is willing to sponsor him. But you guys will be paying less taxes on J visa than H1B.

So this means he just needs to find a job there and doesn't need to apply for any visas?

I would like to add...ur husband will not be able to change his visa (to H1B) until you get ur waiver...........whatever rules applied to J1 will apply to J2 as well........

Now this is scary....How about if I move to states on my J status and he finds his own job and moves to states on TN or H1 status( We are Canadian Citizens) Would that effect him? I know I would still remain on J1.

img08 i think u need to get some more info cuz in my opinion sleepingdoc is right. J2 can be converted to H1.
