you wouldnt know its asymptomatic bacteriurea unless you do a urinalysis right? becoz its asymptomatic.
But in high risk pts like People with diabetes Elderly people Pregnant women -- if asymptomatic bacteriuria is left untreated, up to 40% will develop a kidney infection. Kidney transplant patients Young children with vesicoureteral reflux Patients with infected kidney stones ------ you do a routine urinalysis. Anyone else?

Therapy should be started whenever there is SIGNIFICANT BACTERIUREA... defined as finding more than [10 RAISED TO THE POWER 5 ] colony-forming units per mL of urine.
