Hi friends, I need your advise;
Is it obligatory that the spouse gets a J2 visa when I am on J1. Can he or she keep his B1 visa without getting J2 (He/she may get her own job and H visa then). I s it possible to find health insurance on B1 visa.

Briefly is J2 mandatory when the spouse is sponsored with a J1

I friend of mine has J2. but her B1/b2 was not canceled since J2 is renewed every year. I guess you can ask the consul during your IV that question bec. J2 dependents can apply even if your not together (meaning any other day besides you IV date in your consul. i think just mention that she has work here(your country) for the mean time. I believe its not requirement that you need to apply for j2 but not sure.
