what is best way to diagnose ectopic pregnancy?
also can somebody please explain me relationship b/t beta hCG and growing fetus?

B hCG is produced by placenta,rise to peak of 100,000mIU/ml by 10 wks,dec throughout second trimester,and then goes to 20,000 to 30,000 in third trimester.

for ectopic pregnancy=history,exam,US
if no adnexal mass,do serial hCG every 48 hrs.if hCG doesnt double in 48 hrs ,it is suspicious of ectopic.(nly hCG double every 48 hrs.)

tnx junaid, yes u are right abt serial hcG level, but beckman Ob books says ultrasound cant detect extrauterine pregnancy, need laproscopy in order to diagnose that.
with hcG level,when do u think we can go medical route and use methotreaxate as therapy and not surgery to remove the fetus.

p.s. name just means macrophages are good, its nothing bad abt them, they phagocytoze so many things and become obese...lol.

lapro is done if the pt is suspected to have ruptured ectopic but she is stable.or unruptured (and criteria for metho exceded),for t/m,not for diagnosis.

As Junaid said..BHCG(initial)......, but the best way and most accurate to diagnose ectopic pregnancy is Laproscopy(overal)
