What is my chance of getting into a residency?
I'm an old IMG, graduated 15 years ago. After graduating, I went to graduate school in research. Was doing bio-research all those years. Quit my job three years ago.
Just started to take step 1 and 2.
What scores I need to get to ensure me into a residency? What else can help me?
With green card. No USCE. jonedl401

gurken, Could you go into a little detail about what it means by taking cash to secure a place?

Hi, Doctors,
I grad 1996. 1year research in US without paper. 2 years USCE with 1 year rotation as a PA student, currently practicing as a PA in Ortho full time and ER part time.
Step 1 94, step2 87, first attempt.
LOR from family practice, OB, peds and maybe ortho and general surgery.
What is my chance for med/ped academic program. Which one I should apply?
Thanks

joned!
does not matter what scores you get.....it's difficult getting a residency interview in your position....difficult though not impossible...choose your programs carefully...dont be expecting to get into real good programs
and umm ppl may pick u over somebody who got scores in 80s if u get scores in 90s....or they may pick the 80s guy coz he's a fresh grad.....it never harms to have good scores
Be prepared to answer why u're no longer interested in research?
why u quit your job? and wht did u do for 3 years in the interim?
what is your commitment for doing residency?
how will u cope with the enormous changes that have taken place in medical practice over 15 yrs?
did u ever practice as a physician?
how have u kept ur clinical skills, medical knowledge up to date?
Even if they don't ask u these questions ...take the liberty of clearing any doubts u might perceive that they have...infact if they don't ask u any questions.....asssume they're not considering you
wouldn't u be curious about a candidate like u if u were a PD and wanted to give yourself a position?
