Elective over Observership??? - glacier

HI everyone,have a small doubt here.I am an IMG,gonna b giving my Step1 soon n will be finishing my internship in 2months.Am planning to take up paeds as a speciality later. Can anybody tell me whether doing electives is more rewarding that doing Observership for getting a beter univ for PAediatrics??Please reply ASAP coz will have to apply for electives before my internship gets over.Thanks a lot.

I would think electives are better since they involve direct patient contact. I did a couple of clinical clerkships in Boston (when I was still a med student) and I had my own patients, was allowed to examine them, etc. Whereas in an observership you will not get to do anything but see. So I'd go for the elective.
