just ask him"is ur diabetes under control?"do u haev a home monitior?"how ofetn do u check?'whats the reading that u normally get?"
y do u need to ask hba1c?

IF HE DOESN'T MONITOR HIS GLUCOSE LEVEL REGULARLY, AN Hb a1c measure will give you What is the risk of this patient to develop any complications.
