ACCORD trial.. - samomcos
#1
(The ACCORD trial was designed to determine if a strategy of intensive lowering of blood sugar levels, intensive lowering of blood pressure, or treatment of blood lipids with a fibrate plus a statin, can reduce the risk of major CVD events in patients with type 2 diabetes who are at especially high risk of CVD.)

result: lowest mortality rates occured when HbA1c levels were controlled to be in this range:

1. >8
2. 7-7.9 (standard arm of Rx)
3.

strange but true...answer is 3. (was enlightened by a physician who is part of this trial)

there is increased mortality due to all causes with very tight glucose control (levels of normal population), and that's why later on in this study, the patients on intensive control were shifted over to standard control. this is ALL mortality, not CV mortality. final results and analysis will be out in 2010. wait for it.. Smile

so ideal control is less than 7, but not going down to
