u can get surgery prelim but ur chances of getting categorical surgery are very lowwww so its like a dead end to anyone who does prelim then wants cat surgery

Are you kidding? Transitional is very competitive.

Trans med may be compet, but transitional surgery is never competitive
take a look at 2009 surgery match results: Surgery (Categorical) 239 (programs) 1,065 (positions) 5 (unfilled programs) 1,079 (AMGs applied) 2,071 (total applied) 824 (AMG matched) 1,060 (total matched) SO THE IMGs MATCHED 263 % AMGs 77.4 so IMGs matche around 23% Surgery-Preliminary (PGY-1 Only) 266(programs) 1,151(positions) 138(unfilled programs) 824(AMG matched) 1,654(total matched) AMGs matched 401 total matched 678 so IMGs matced prelim surgery are 277 plus 266 unfilled. % AMGs matched 34.8
